How to generate and manage proxies
Building a proxy
When a clip won’t play smoothly, use the Proxies control to build a lightweight preview. You can pick the quality with Build {res}p, where the choices are Low = 360p (fastest and smallest), Medium = 720p (a balance), and High = 1080p (best looking). For most previewing, Medium is a comfortable middle ground.
If you open a heavy clip, Brolla nudges you: “Large file — build a preview to watch it here … Build ONCE a lightweight preview proxy first — the original stays intact.” You only need to build it once; after that the proxy is ready whenever you open the clip.
ProRes and other tricky codecs
Some professional formats can’t be shown directly. For these you’ll see: “This codec can’t be previewed here … Generate a lightweight H.264 preview to watch it here — the original is untouched.” Generating that H.264 preview gives you a watchable version while your master file stays exactly as it is.
Switching and deleting
Once a proxy exists, Brolla shows Preview proxy active; if there’s none yet it shows No preview proxy. You can choose Show original (no proxy) to view the full file when your machine can handle it.
To free up space, use Delete proxy to remove one clip’s preview, or Delete all proxies to clear them across the library. Deleting a proxy never affects your footage — you can always Generate proxy again later. Want a different default size? You can “Change proxy settings in Settings › Performance.”
