Protecting a library with a password
Setting a password
In Settings ▸ Security you can add a Library password to keep casual eyes out. Click Set password… and choose your password. Later you can use Change password… to update it, or Remove password to take it off entirely.
When you next open the library, you’ll see This library is protected and a place to enter your password.
Save your recovery code
The moment you set a password, Brolla shows you a one-time recovery code in the format XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX. This is shown only once, so save it somewhere safe right away — a password manager is ideal.
This code is your only way back in if you ever forget your password. If you lose both the password and the code, there’s no way to unlock the library, so treat the code with care.
Unlocking a protected library
When you open a protected library, enter your password at the This library is protected screen. If you’ve forgotten it, click Forgot password? and enter your recovery code instead to get back in.
Important: a password is not encryption
Please keep this in mind: a library password deters casual access but does not encrypt your files. Anyone with direct access to the disk can still read the files themselves. For sensitive footage — especially on external drives that travel with you — use an encrypted disk for real protection. The password is a helpful deterrent, not a vault.
