How to find duplicates and missing files

Find duplicates

Imported the same clip twice over the years? In the Library tab, run Find duplicates. Brolla scans and groups assets with identical contents, matched by a file fingerprint — so two different clips that just happen to be the same size won’t be flagged by mistake.

Before removing anything, click a copy’s thumbnail to preview it, so you can be sure it really is a duplicate. As Brolla reminds you, “Nothing is changed until you do.” When you’re ready, you can use Keep oldest, remove rest to clear out the extras and keep your original, or Remove all duplicates — keep oldest to tidy every group at once.

Find missing files

If you deleted or moved a file inside your library’s media folder from outside Brolla, the app’s entry for it can break. Run Find missing files to spot these. As Brolla explains: “Files that just moved to another spot in media are reconnected automatically; truly-gone ones are listed for cleanup.”

So a file you simply shifted around gets reconnected on its own. Anything genuinely gone is listed so you can deal with it.

Cleaning up safely

For each missing entry you have clear choices. Use Reveal in Finder to check where a file lives, Remove to clear out a single broken entry, or Remove all to clean the whole list at once. Nothing touches your actual footage on disk — these tools only tidy Brolla’s record of it, so you can prune with confidence.
